Ed Hoy's International
Illuminated Hot Mosaics
Christine Stewart - 2 day class

Create endless application possibilities for both the front and back surfaces of transparent glass. This dynamic class will definitely spark your inspiration and fascination for Hot Mosaics.

This technique offers the glass artist a broad color pallet to work with when experimenting with layering different colors of transparent glass and  textures on top of each color. You will select your design, fire up in the kilns and create fused and layered transparent design components. It is the depth of these layers and the textures within that will bring your piece to sparkling life as the light travels through your completed project.

Illuminated Hot Mosaics - a dance of color and light - a glass mosaic of captivating illuminating magic! You will work on two projects within the class - a flat window hanging and also a three dimensional vase or candle holder. You will be guided through the process and be shown the most effective gluing techniques, which is the correct choice of glue and how to overcome working on a curved or dimensional surface.

To grout or not to grout??? We automatically assume a mosaic project will be grouted but with illuminated mosaics ‘no grout’ often allows a more crystalline effect. The choice and application of the individual design will dictate whether your piece will suit grouting or not. Christine will thoroughly explain this process and guide you to making the correct decision for your piece.
