Daylily Flower Stem
An Introduction to Stained Glass
Design, Fabrication, and Text by Lidia K. Anderson
Free-form stained glass flowers created by cutting and foiling pointed ovals of glass. Stamens for the flower centers are created with jewelry eye pins, filling the eyes with solder, bundling with wire, and soldering the bottoms together. The individual flowers are installed on tin-soldered copper. This project was constructed using the copper foil technique.

Tulip Trees

A half-circle floral stained glass design featuring pink magnolia stems and blooms against a white iridescent moon and Cranberry Pink border. The flower petals are cut from two pinks, then either tack fused or full fused before foiling and constructing the panel. This project was constructed using the copper foil technique.

Butterflies, Hummingbirds, and Morning Glories

The selection of opal, streaky, and Wisspy glasses plus the careful placement of the glass grains for the background, cattail heads, and dragonfly wings adds to the realism of the panel. The Green Man

A 12"-diameter circular stained glass design that depicts the Green Man, a 2,500-year-old icon associated with rebirth and the cycle of life. The various shades of green glass against the outer border of Light Olive English Muffle help the abstract face become visible. This project was constructed using the copper foil technique.

Fashionably Chic Corset

An 11-1/2" x 10" free-form fused corset shape decorated with various shapes and colors of dichroic glass. Embossed rose buds are made and used to decorate the center front of the corset. An elegant curve is then added by slumping the fused corset. Firing schedules are included.

Tiny Spring Vase

Tiny 2" x 2-1/4" fused vases made from textured dichroic glass. Fiber paper and white glass are used to maintain a space in the top of the vase as a place to add small sprigs of flowers, and a magnet is added to the back for mounting the vases. A firing schedule is provided.

Joyful Ceiling Lamp

A 14" x 14" fused and slumped ceiling lap shade base is created by trimming the corners from a white glass square, then decorating with broken shards of colored glass before fusing and slumping. The hardware taken from a purchased ceiling lamp is used to install the shade. Firing schedules are provided.

Kiln Formed Powder Wafers

Instructions are provided for creating a horse design with powder wafers, design elements that are made by heating thin layers of glass powder just to the onset of fusing directly on a kiln shelf. Wild West Coast Waves

A 6" x 6" painted and fused white glass square with huge rolling waves. Glass enamels are poured onto the glass square, and a paint brush is used to fill in any gaps. Paper towels are then used to help form the waves. A firing schedule is provided.
