Piper’s Pattern Paper makes DIY stained glass work easier with the company’s new adhesive backed pattern paper. The rolls are 10 feet long by 30 inches wide for a total of 25 square feet per roll. This adhesive pattern paper provides much greater accuracy in cutting glass, because the thickness of the paper gives artists a slightly raised edge to score against. Leaving the paper on while you grind will speed the process even more, because you will know exactly where the glass is supposed to be ground, and unlike a marker, the paper won’t rinse away while you grind. There’s no tape, glue, or spray adhesive to mess with. There’s also no fitting required, but you get a perfect fit every time. Piper’s Pattern Paper is distributed by Creator’s Stained Glass and is available on and   847‑477‑3863

Gryphon Corporation
offers the Gryphon Omni-2 Plus Wire Saw, which is easy to use, requires no adjustments, has few moving parts, and is extremely mow maintenance. A built-in pump automatically provides the correct amount of water to the blade, and a mini spotlight illuminates the work area. The round blade has diamonds all around, so the saw will cut in any direction, with cutting very similar to using a ring saw. The blades are very durable and leave a fine edge when cutting so that no additional grinding is required. The saw’s unique design with its simple, straight blade also makes it possible to make inside cuts by simply drilling a hole in a piece of glass and passing the blade through the hole before securing it in the saw. An initial low cost plus an extremely low cost for blade replacements and very reliable performance make this a great combination.   818-890-7770

Gryphon Corporation presents the Gryphon C-40 Band Saw, the diamond band saw that is ideal for difficult projects, since it cuts through heavily rippled glass as easily as through the smoothest window glass. The thin diamond blade removes very little material as it cuts, which means that the saw has to do less work to cut through your glass, stone, tile, or other material and cuts faster and easier than saws with wider blades. The thin cut is also advantageous when cutting precious materials. In addition to the standard configuration for glass, the C-40 is also available in a version optimized for corrosive environments such as salt water and a version that is taller with additional clearance.   818-890-7770

AAE Glass has a new and revolutionary product, Illusion Transfers. Each sheet, handmade specifically for the glass or ceramic artist, is a handmade, screen printed design with several layers of black enamel to ensure full coverage and opacity. The transfers are created with a mesh screen on top of a special backing that allows artists to soak their enamel in water and apply to the substrate. They can be used on any COE of glass. Even dichroic can be patterned with your choice of dichroic coloring with the enamel designs to create infinite combinations of patterned colored dichroic. After firing, images are thick, opaque, and glossy black, just as if you had screen printed the glass yourself. Be sure to check out Tanya Veit’s free video class on using this extraordinary product, available exclusively at AAE Glass.   239‑471‑7724

Glass Accessories International has debuted its new Toyo TC-70 Trac Wheel oil glass cutter, a revolutionary new wheel that features micronotches along the edge of the wheel. The notches, which are measured in microns and not visible to the naked eye, provide traction for the wheel as it starts rolling on the glass, reducing chances of the wheel skipping. Manufacturing applications using this new wheel yield a significant increase in wheel life, clean scores, and clean breakouts. Starting the first quarter of 2017, the TC-70 will be available in both Pattern and Straight blade options. Trac Wheel replacement blades will be available at the same time as the cutter and will fit all Toyo cutters that currently accept the TC-10H and TC-17H blades. A Trac Wheel option is anticipated to be available on multiple handle styles later in 2017, and pricing for the Toyo Trac Wheel is expected to be the same as other Toyo cutters with similar handles.

Morton Glass Works presents the Cutter Slide, a new accessory for the Portable Glass Shop. Using the slide, which is comparable to the training wheels on a bicycle, along with the video on the company’s website, glass artists will quickly learn the most important shortcut to using the Portable Glass Shop—how to score perfect, straight lines. The Cutter Slide’s window can be turned toward the left or right side of the Cutting Bar. You’ll want to practice using both sides, since it’s important to learn how to score down the left and right sides of the bar. These shop components, sized for use with a standard-width 5 mm cutter head, are also designed to help glass artists learn to prevent two common problems—tilting the glass cutter at an angle and holding it too tightly to the cutting bar. The Cutter Slide will give you instant feedback to let you know if your cutting techniques need correction. With practice using the slide, you will soon be able to make perfect scores on you own. Visit the Cutter Slide video link at the bottom right of the website home page for a video on using these great products.

Four sintered diamond blades are available in double- and single-sided versions that each come in standard and fine grit. A one-horse-power, direct-drive, DC motor runs a cogged belt for excellent cutting performance.  310‑891‑0288   iThis email address is being protected from spambots. Kaiser Lee LLC has just added a full line of Wissmach Glass Cullet. Cullet is generated when pieces of sheet glass need to be cut to size in order to box it for distribution. The edge “cut-offs” are thrown into a barrel, thus breaking the glass into smaller pieces. Some of the cullet is used as an ingredient in the new mixture for the next furnace load. There is more cullet left, however, than Wissmach can use for the glassmaking process. Since the cullet comes from already tested fusing glass, it provides an affordable way for glass artists to obtain perfect compatible glass for castings, pot melts, vitrigraph stringers, frit making, and many other applications. The cullet is available in all of Wissmach’s 90 and 96 COE colors and comes in convenient five-pound containers. Visit the Kaiser Lee website to see cullet videos and free tutorials.  239‑540‑1137   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Whittemore-Durgin Glass Company is celebrating 50 years of providing stained glass supplies for glass hobbyists and artisans. The company began in 1965 when an art student came in to the old plate glass company in Quincy, Massachusetts, looking for colored glass for an art project. With that small transaction, the company began to fill the void for amateur glass hobbyists, providing not only supplies but also hard-to-make kits, original patterns for lampshades, windows and suncatchers, and innovative tools, materials, and instructional books. The company quickly expanded to its current 13,000-square-foot location in Rockland, Massachusetts. Operating from the same building since 1971, this family owned company has managed to maintain the look and feel of an old-fashioned hardware store while completely modernizing behind the scenes with an advanced computer system and a comprehensive e-commerce website. The store is unique, unconventional, and fun to browse, and offers visitors a way to step back in time.  800‑262‑1790   This email address is being protected from spambots. Perhaps the most inspirational of issues, we invite artists to submit their original patterns and tutorials. This issue features an extensive Holiday gallery as well for those whose just wish to submit their high resolution (300 DPI images).  All skill level (beginner, intermediate and advanced) submissions are accepted. Any type of glass project or artwork is accepted (stained, etched, lead, painted, fused, slumped, cast, mixed media, ect.).

Is the artwork or project you would like to submit fitting for a particular season or time of year?

If so, please keep in mind that we plan our issues up to a year in advance. All types of submissions are accepted year-round for all issues and are scheduled as space permits. Consideration of your submission for publication in Glass Patterns Quarterly is as much a matter of editorial and seasonal circumstance as the quality of your artwork and digital photographs. Please review the deadlines and upcoming themed issue information for submissions above. Often our issue is filled before our editorial deadline date. Please send in your submission before the deadline, if possible. For a list of frequently asked questions concerning submissions, please click here.

If you plan to submit an article, please refer to past issues for guidance in selecting subject matter, writing style, editorial and photography quality.

We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the content, style and tone of our previous issues before beginning your submission.

Glass Patterns Quarterly only publishes original work. We cannot publish a design that you saw on the Internet, learned in a class, or copied from an existing piece. Also, please do not submit work that has already been published or is currently under consideration at another magazine or publisher. Glass Patterns Quarterly reserves the right to edit your material for grammar, length and clarity to fit the requirements or format of the magazine.

Upon receipt of your submission, GPQ will contact you to confirm reciept, discuss when your artwork is likely to be published, and other details. We look forward to reviewing your submission
